Cooperstown 7th & 8th Graders Visit Baseball Hall of Fame to Learn About Women's History in Baseball

Posted Date: 03/25/26 (10:45 AM)

As March is Women's History Month, Cooperstown 7th and 8th grade students went on a field trip to the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum on Tuesday to attend the museum's educational workshop "Women's History: Dirt on Their Skirts."

The students learned about gender stereotypes in sports and how female baseball players have challenged these stereotypes. They also compared and contrasted the experiences of female baseball players and all-women's baseball teams during different periods in U.S. history.

Additionally, students analyzed milestones and events in the history of women in baseball to learn how their achievements resulted in greater opportunities for women in the present day. They also discussed the challenges women were forced to overcome in the 19th and 20th centuries in order to earn a sense of accomplishment and respect in the front office, on the field and in the press box in Major League Baseball.

Thank you to Mrs. Wolfe for coordinating this field trip for our 7th and 8th graders, and thank you to the excellent museum teachers at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum for providing this valuable educational experience!
