Congratulations to Cooperstown Central School senior Jacob Johnson on being named a 2026 Positive Athlete award winner for New York state!
Jacob, a standout student-athlete in cross country, swimming and track and field, was selected as one of just 28 student-athletes statewide to receive this prestigious honor. More than 750 students from over 400 high schools across New York were nominated, and Jacob was chosen for exemplifying the qualities of a truly positive athlete.
Positive Athlete is a national organization that recognizes student-athletes who make a meaningful impact beyond competition by demonstrating integrity, resilience and a commitment to others. Award winners embody the organization’s Seven Definitions of How A Positive Athlete O.P.E.R.A.T.E.S.: Optimistic, Puts Team First, Encouraging, Respectful, Admits Imperfections, True Heart for Others, Embraces Service.
Nationwide, Positive Athlete received more than 15,000 nominations from over 6,000 high schools, with only about 3% of nominees receiving recognition.
Jacob’s selection reflects the outstanding character, leadership and sportsmanship he consistently demonstrates in the classroom, in competition and throughout the Cooperstown community.
We are incredibly proud of Jacob and congratulate him on this well-deserved honor!
