Superintendent Search Update: Confidential Search Process and Timeline

Posted Date: 06/30/26 (12:52 PM)

Dear Cooperstown Community,

Last week, we announced the start of the search for Cooperstown’s next superintendent. This message provides additional information on the search.

With the support of our search consultant, ONC BOCES District Superintendent Dr. Catherine Huber, the Board has decided to conduct a confidential search for our next leader.

In this context, a “confidential search” means the identities of candidates remain confidential, and the Board assumes full responsibility for conducting interviews and making a selection. This is a common approach in superintendent searches because it generally produces a stronger pool of candidates – particularly among sitting superintendents and other educational leaders who may be reluctant to apply if their candidacy were to be public.

While the candidates' names will remain confidential, we are committed to keeping the community informed about the timeline. The position will be posted in early July, interviews will take place in August and September, and we anticipate appointing our next superintendent in the fall for a winter start.

Hiring a superintendent is one of the Board’s most important responsibilities, and we are committed to a thoughtful, professional and thorough search for Cooperstown’s next leader. We look forward to this process, and we sincerely appreciate our community’s support as we begin this important work.

On behalf of the Cooperstown Board of Education,

Pete Iorizzo
Board of Education President
